Chapters 33-34 -- THE END

Chapter 33
Time files by and soon it’s time to head to Texas for the holidays.  Everyone wants Cole and Tina to find out what the baby is but they decide to wait until the birth.  Both Cole’s parents and Tina’s parents plan to come out for the birth.  Tina’s due date is May 29th.  Everyone will come out the week before.
They all enjoy the holidays together then Cole, Tina, Isaac and Laura head back to Jamaica after the New Year.
Tina works right up until the week before the baby is due.  She picks both Cole’s and her parents up from the airport after her last day of work.
“My gosh,” Tina’s mom says.  “Tina, you shouldn’t be driving dear.”
Tina laughs.  “I have no choice.  Cole’s car is in the shop and he can’t drive mine since it isn’t modified.  Today is the only day I’ve driven in the last month.  Ellen was going to drive me but she was sick this morning and Elaine had class.”
“Well, I am driving home,” Matthew tells her.  “You just tell me the way.”
“Sure,” Tina laughs, as she hands him the keys.
They get home and find Cole has prepared dinner.  “Wow babe,” Tina says as she kisses him.  “Nice job!”
He helps Tina to her chair with a smile.  “Just talked to Charlie.  My car will be ready by 9 tomorrow.  He’s gonna have someone bring it by,” he tells her.
“Oh, that’s nice of him,” Tina replies as she sits at the table.
They all enjoy their time together and preparing for the new arrival.  Tina’s and Cole’s parents help put the finishing touches on the zoo themed nursery.  They decided to make it natural since they didn’t find out what the baby was.
Just over a week later early in the morning on June 2, Cole is awaked by Tina’s loud moan.  “T, are you ok?”  She moans again and grabs Cole’s hands.  Cole sits up and asks again, “Are you ok?  Do we need to go to the hospital?”
Tina squeezes his hand and takes several quick breaths and finally manages to squeak out, “Yes!”
Cole pulls himself to the foot of the bed, pulls on his prosthetic leg and grabs his clothes.  He then helps Tina get some clothes on.  He grabs his phone and calls Elaine in the garage apartment.
“Hey Elaine, its Cole.  I think it’s time.  Can you come down and help?”
“Be right there,” she says and hangs up.
As Cole puts Tina in the back seat of his car, the sun is just starting to rise.  He hollers to Elaine standing on the porch, “Let everyone know!”  He jumps in and speeds off.
Tina’s mom heard the commotion and gets to the porch just as Cole pulls out of the drive.  “Elaine, what’s going on?”
“Gonna be a baby soon, ma’am.  Let’s go get everyone and we can head to the hospital,” Elaine answers.
They rush in and wake everyone up, make and eat a quick breakfast and head to the hospital.
After several hours, Cole comes out and says they are still waiting.  “She’s resting now.  They think it won’t be till evening.  Elaine, you want to take Isaac and Laura home?  I’ll call you when it’s time.”
“Sure,” Elaine answers.  Isaac and Laura hug everyone and they leave.
Cole and both sets of parents go to the cafeteria to get something to eat.
“You look tired, son,” Hazel says.  “Why don’t you try and get some rest?”
Cole laughs, “Been up since 4.  Really haven’t slept well in several weeks because of this,” he tells her.  “I’ll be fine.  Its T I am worried about.  She’s in a lot of pain.  They did a sonogram and said they think the baby is setting itself up to be backwards.  Said they are gonna wait and see but they may have to try and turn it when the time comes.  She’s not too worried about it but I sure am, especially what happened when I was born.”  Cole drops his head into his hands.  Hazel pats his back.
“It’s ok Cole.  Things are much different now.  Much better then when you were born.  She’ll be fine,” she answers.
After lunch Cole heads back to be with Tina.  Its several hours later when the doctor decided it’s time.  He does a sonogram and decided he needs to try to turn the baby.
“OK Tina, we are going to have to turn it.  We need to do it before you progress any further.  You are going to feel some pressure and a bit of pain.  Try not to tease up.  We ready?”
Tina takes Cole’s hand.  “Yes, let’s do it.”
The doctor does the procedure as Tina breaths deeply to relax.  She feels the pressure and the pain.  Finally it’s over.  “Ok, good job Tina,” the doctor says.  “That should really stimulate things and we should progress rather quickly now.  I’ll be back in a bit.”
Three hours later the baby is born.  Cole walks out to the waiting room and announces to everyone, “It’s a boy!  Caleb Jeffery.  7 lbs 14 ozs, 21 inches long.  Healthy and cute as can be.”
There are hugs all around.  Isaac is most excited.  “Yeah daddy.  It’s a boy!,” he says as he leaps into Cole’s arms.  “When can I see him?”
“Well buddy,” Cole answers.  “You can see him and mommy in just a bit.  Everyone can.  Now, I am gonna go be with mommy and I’ll come back when you can come in.”  He kisses Isaac and walks back to the room.
Finally everyone gets to see baby Caleb and they think he is so cute.  They are all excited, especially the next day when it’s time to welcome him home.
Both sets of parents stay a few more days before heading back to Texas.  Cole, Tina, Isaac and Laura all settle into life with the new baby.

Chapter 34
Time passes quickly for the Connor family.  Cole is at home with the family one day when there is a knock at the door.  Cole opens the door as the lady turns around and Cole stares into her face, “Phiny!”
“Hello Cole, Look I know I am probably the last person you want to see.  May I come in?”
Cole is stunned, “Um I guess so.  I mean yes please.”
Cole shows Phiny in and they have a seat.  Finally Cole asks, “So what brings you here, Phiny?”
“Cole I really don’t know where to start,” she answers.  “First I guess, I need to ask for your forgiveness.  What I tried to do to you and how I treated you.  I was wrong.  I ask that you forgive me, please!”
Cole swallows hard.  “Phiny, I forgave you that day.  It’s over.”
Phiny stands up and walks over and sits beside Cole.  “Second, I want to say, thank you!”
Cole leans back on the couch.  “Thank me?  For what?”
Phiny stands and walks to the window.  “Do you remember what you said to me the last time I saw you?” Phiny turns quickly.  “I do, Cole.  You told me that you would pray that my hard heart would turn to God!  You told me that I could do great things for Him.  You said your last moments would be spent praying for me.”  Phiny is in tears.  “Then I… I… I well you know what happened.”
Phiny sank into the nearest chair.  She began sobbing so much she couldn’t speak.  Cole walks over and hands her a handkerchief.  “Phiny, I have prayed for you every day that God would draw you to Him.”
Phiny looks at Cole.  “That’s just it Cole.  He started to reveal Himself to me the second I left that day.  I can’t even begin to tell you all the ways He has revealed Himself to me.  Look I know I just caught you off guard with all of this.  Do you have time for all of this right now?”
Cole smiles.  “Actually Phiny, it’s perfect.  We were just having a quiet family day at home.  Say can I get you anything?”
Phiny smiles, “A glass of water would be great but I don’t want to take you away from your family.”
Cole stands up to get her water.  “Nonsense.  As a matter of fact, I would like them to meet you.  I’ll get that water.  Be right back.”
Cole leaves and Phiny picks up the Bible laying on the table beside her and opens it.
Cole returns, “Great book isn’t it?”
Phiny takes the glass form Cole.  “Yes it is.”
“Phiny, I’d like you to meet my family,” Cole says.  “You actually know most of them.  My wife, Tina, our eldest son Isaac, daughter Laura and our younger son Caleb and baby Rachel is due in about 2 months.”
Phiny smiles.  “Well, nice to meet you all.  Tina I will apologize to you just as I did Cole for all that stuff several years ago.  I assure you I am not that person anymore.  I was about to tell Cole something, I would love for you all to hear it as well.  How old are all these guys?”
Cole sits on the couch with his family.  “Well, Isaac here just turned 6.  Laura is almost 3 and Caleb is almost a year.  Rachel Eleanor will be here in about 2 months.”
Phiny smiles.  “Wow, these 2 have really grown.  Please tell me they don’t remember what happened.”
Tina hands Caleb to Cole.  “Laura thankfully was too young.  Isaac had bad dreams for a while but shortly after Cole returned we were able to get through that.  He hasn’t mentioned it since.”
Phiny takes a drink of water.  “Glad to hear that.  Again I want to ask you both for your forgiveness.”
Cole reaches and takes Phiny’s hand.  “As I said, that has already been done.  Now please, you were saying how God revealed Himself to you.”
Phiny sits back in her chair and begins to tell Cole and Tina the stories of how God revealed Himself.  About the dreams and visions she had.  She went on and on for over an hour.  “Finally,” she said, “I found this.”  She took a sheet of paper from her pocket and handed it to Cole.  “That night at the mansion when we sat up all night and talked mostly about God and the Bible.  I wrote in my journal.  That’s the page.  I found it stuck in a drawer, just that one page.  It was in the drawer where I kept my gun.  I was planning on killing myself.  I reached in the drawer and my pistol was not there.  The only thing in that drawer was this piece of paper.  Cole please read it out loud.”
Cole unfolds the piece of paper and begins to read.  “This God he talks about.  I want to know more.  Donavan seems so sure that God is the answer.  God, he says, loves everyone.  I remember something about God sending His son to die for my sins.  Why would anyone want to die for me?  Donavan talks about grace and mercy like they are precious gifts.  I need to know more.  I need to know why God would kill His son for me.  I kill people.  I’ve killed many.  But Jesus gave His life for me?  Why?  Donavan seems to know the answer.  I will not rest until I find the answer.”  Cole has tears in his eyes as he finishes.  “I remember that night.  You seemed to have a lot to say about God Phiny.”
“True, I did but I was all memorized and rehearsed for the part.  I didn’t really know.  But you made an impression.  The night I found that in the drawer, I had a new mission, to find the answers.  I found a church with a great group of people.  There was a staff counselor that I began going to.  I was able to work through my past with her.  It took about a year for me to come to the point to give my life to the Lord.  She prayed with me as I accepted Jesus as my Savior.  That was almost a year and a half ago.  I have been living for Him ever since.  I still go to see her from time to time.  One thing I struggles with was you.  I always felt as if I needed to face you and ask for forgiveness, for my own sake.  She helped me find you and that is what lead me her today.”
“Phiny, I am glad you did,” Cole says.  “We pray for you daily and it’s nice to finally know they have been answered.  Please join us for dinner tonight and we can continue.”
Phiny stands up.  “I don’t want to inconvenience you.  I just came here to so what needed to be done.”
“Nonsense,” Tina says.  “Dinner is almost ready.  Let me just tell Elaine to set another place.”
Phiny smiles as Tina gets up, “Then I’d love to.”
They all continue to talk until Elaine announces dinner is ready.  Then Phiny sits down with Cole and the rest of his growing family.  They all hold hands as Cole begins to pray.  “Lord, thank you for reuniting us with our friend and new sister in You, Phiny.  We welcome her gladly to the family.  Continue to bless her and use her for Your good.  Amen”

Chapters 30, 31. 32

Chapter 30
Two days later Tina returns home.  She makes plans to return to Jamaica on the closing date of the house.  On the flight home she decides she needs to hire a nanny to help with Isaac and Laura so both she and Pam can return to normal work hours.  When she arrives home, Pam agrees to help with the kids a few days a week until Tina finds a nanny, so Tina can go into work some as well.
After a 3 week search, Tina finds the perfect young lady whom Isaac and Laura seem to love.  Her name is Elaine and she moves into one of Tina’s extra rooms.  They all settle into their routine and life seems back to normal.
It isn’t long before Tina makes a quick trip to Jamaica to sign the papers on the house.  She returns home to Texas a new, proud homeowner.  She makes arrangements with Ellen to order furnishings for the house and have them delivered.  Ellen would see to it that things are done correctly.  It will be a month or so before this process begins but Tina wanted to get it all set with Ellen and the furniture company.
The date of Suzy’s wedding draws near as the family is more anxious about knowing where Cole is.  They haven’t heard any update since he left the hospital.  Tina continues to keep the faith he will make their wedding in November.
Tina, Isaac, Laura and Elaine all make the journey to east Texas for Suzy’s wedding.  Isaac is the ring bearer and Laura who is almost one year old is going to hopefully be the flower girl.  “She’s been practicing,” Tina tells Suzy when they arrive.  “Hopefully she’ll make it,” she laughs.
“She’ll be fine,” Suzy says with a hug.
The morning of the wedding, Suzy is sitting in the bride room with her mom, all here bridesmaids, Tina and Laura.  “Mom, I really wish Cole was here.  I always pictured him walking you down the aisle.”
Hazel hugs Suzy, “I know dear, so did I.  Look I have this for you.  With it at least a part of him will be here.”  Hazel hands Suzy Cole’s college graduation ring.  “Wear this and keep him close.”
Suzy hugs here and slips the ring on her right index finger.  Just then there is a knock on the door.  Tina goes to the door, “Who is it?”  There is only another knock in response.  She cracks the door open just enough to see who it is.  She peers through the crack and sees a familiar face.
“Oh my gosh!  Cole!” she screams flinging open the door and practically leaps into his arms almost knocking him over.  Hazel and Suzy aren’t far behind.  After many hugs and tears they all sit in the bride room.
After a few moments of silence, Tina finally asks, “So how in the world did you….”
Cole interrupts, “Todd Campbell.  I don’t know how he did it but somehow he got me out.  I just got in, knew what an important day this was so I came straight here, after stopping to get my wedding threads of course,” he says with a smile.
Hazel wipes a tear from her eye, “You seem to be getting around pretty good.”
Cole kisses here cheek.  “Yes the prosthetic leg they gave me is pretty good.  I am still learning to balance.  Pretty soon I can get rid of this silly cane.  Now enough of this sappy stuff.  We’ve got a wedding!”  Cole looks around and noticed Laura playing on the floor.  He starts to cry.  “She has gotten so big!  Is she walking yet?”
Tina smiles and calls her, “Laura come here.”
Laura stands and wobbles slowly to Tina.
“Oh my goodness,” Cole cries.
Tina picks Laura up and sits her on Cole’s lap.  “Laura, this is your Daddy.  Remember we talked about Daddy?”
Laura smiles and hugs Cole, “DaDa.”  Cole’s heart melts.
Suzy finally speaks, “I know a little boy who is gonna turn inside out.”
Tina laughs.  “That he will.  Let me go get him and your dad as well.”  Tina leaves but soon returns.  She opens the door slowly and Isaac sees Cole sitting in the chair, “Daddy!”  He runs and leaps into his lap.
“Hey buddy.  I told you I’d be back,” Cole says as he hugs Isaac tightly.
“I knew you would.  You gonna stay this time?”  Isaac gives him a look.
“Yes buddy!  I am going to stay,” Cole says with a smile.  “Tell you what buddy, tomorrow after Aunt Suzy’s wedding, we will have a family day.  Just you, me, mommy and Laura.  We will have just have fun.  Now, where is Pawpaw?”
Isaac jumps down.  “He had to go potty.  I’ll go get him!”
As Isaac gets to the door, Matthew opens it.  He stands amazed as Cole stands up in front of him.  “Hey dad,” Cole says as Matthew walks in already in tears.
“My Cole,” Matthew says putting his arm around his son.  “God is great!”  They hug for a long time.  Suzy finally speaks.
“Um, guys, I hate to stop you but its time!.”
Matthew kisses Cole’s cheek.  “My heart is full son.  I have no words.”
Cole puts his hand on his father’s shoulder.  “I know dad.  It’s all good.  Now mom, may I escort you to your seat?”
Hazel smiles and takes Cole’s arm, “You need your cane?”
Cole kisses her cheek, “Not is you hold on tight.”  Hazel smiles.
Tina kisses Cole and takes Laura.  “As long as I get first dance.”
Cole smiles, “I wouldn’t dream of giving it to anyone else.”
The wedding was beautiful.  At the reception, Suzy and her new husband, Donald, opened the dancing.  Cole fulfilled his promise to Tina.  They held each other so tight as they danced.  Tina softly crying tears of joy onto his shoulder.  She couldn't believe he was home.  Cole also danced with Hazel and Suzy who had similar reactions.

Chapter 31
Cole got an apartment around the corner from Tina’s house.  He continued to do therapy for his legs and arm.  He had a few small medical procedures to finishing repairing a few issues.  He also got reconnected with Todd from the FBI who helped him not only get out of the agency but also got him a job running security for a local F.B.I. affiliate.  Cole took things easy as he continued to heal.  Laura took to him immediately and just melted his heart every time she smiled at him.
As summer came to a close, they were in constant communication with James and Ellen.  They talked about Cole’s role as Director of Foreign intakes at the orphanage.  Tina would also serve as Medical Director and oversee the building, staffing and operation of the brand new medical facility.  They were all very excited.
The plan was to be married in November in Jamaica, spend thanksgiving and Christmas in Texas with family and move to Jamaica after New Year’s.  By then the house would be finished and ready to go.  Cole loved the pictures of the house and helped Tina pick out most of the furniture.
Before long the wedding was only a few months away.  Tina was working hard to finish up her research and prepare for the move.  The kids were also excited that mommy and daddy would be together.
They all flew to Jamaica a couple of weeks before the wedding to finish the plans and make sure the house was ready to go.  Elaine goes with them to help with the kids.  The rest of the family will arrive in a week or so.
Cole and Tina work out the details of where everyone will stay and what all still needs to be done.  As they arrive at the house, Cole loves it.  He is glad Tina picked it.  Laura and Isaac love their rooms.  The only furniture left to get is the dining room table and the master bed.  Tina and Cole will go pick those out together.
Soon everyone starts arriving for the wedding.  Things will be simple yet elegant.  Cole will wear simple white beach pants and shirt.  Tina will wear a white lace sundress.
The morning of the big day arrives and everyone is excited.  A few chairs are placed in the sand just below Cole and Tina’s rock.  The wedding party and Pastor James will stand on the rock just above everyone.
Pastor James, Cole, his dad, Isaac and Laura take their place as the music starts.  Ellen plays the keyboard as Tina and her father walk toward the rock.  When they get to the foot of the rock, Pastor James begins.  Cole looks down at Tina and smiles with tears in his eyes.
“Family and Friends,” Pastor James begins.  “We have come today to witness Cole and Tina pledge their love to each other and these two wonderful children.  Is there any reason why they should not be wed?”  He pauses.  “Having none, who gives Tina to be wed?”
Tina’s dad speaks up, “Her mother and I.”  He kisses Tina, shakes Cole’s hand and then places Tina’s hand in Cole’s as he helps her up on the rock.
Cole and Tina hold hands and look into each other’s eyes as Pastor James continues.  “Cole and Tina will now say their vows to each other.”
Cole takes a deep breath and begins.  “Tina, I love you and I know that this love is from God.  Because of this, I want to be your husband so that we might serve Christ together.  Through all of the uncertainties and trials of the present and future, I promise to be faithful to you and love you.  I give you all I have, myself, and my love.  As we follow God together, may we grow in the likeness of Christ and our home be a praise to Him.”
Tina has tears in her eyes as Cole smiles and squeezes her hand.  She takes a deep breath and speaks.
“Cole, I love you and I know this love is from God.  Because of this, I want to be your wife so that we might serve Christ together.  Through all of the uncertainties and trials of the past and future, I promise to be faithful to you and love you.  I give you all I have, myself, and my love.  As we follow God together, may we grow in the likeness of Christ and our home be a praise to Him.”
By now Cole and Tina are both crying.  They compose themselves as Pastor James says, “Now Cole and Tina would like to make a vow to Isaac and Laura.”
Cole and Tina kneel in front of Isaac and Laura and they all hold hands.  Together Cole and Tina say, “Isaac and Laura, we take you to be our children.  We promise to love you and protect you.  We promise to provide everything you need and treat you as the gifts from God that you are.  WE promise to raise you in love and fear of God and with His help we will strive to help you become the person God created you to be.  We love you now and always.”  They all hug as everyone has tears in their eyes.  Even Pastor James has to compose himself before he continues.
“Cole and Tina have made their vow to each other and also to Isaac and Laura before God and these witnesses.  God we ask for your blessings and love on this beautiful family.  What you have brought together, let nothing separate.    Cole and Tina, I now pronounce you husband and wife.  Cole you may kiss your bride!”
Cole takes Tina and give her a kiss.  They then pick up Laura and Isaac.
“Ladies and Gentlemen,” James begins.  “May I present to you Mr. and Mrs. Cole Connor and Isaac and Laura Connor.”  They all walk off the rock, across the sand and into the church.  They share a kiss in the doorway just as they did the day the storm first sent then into the church.
After a beautiful reception, Cole and Tina fly off to Paris for their honeymoon.  Isaac and Laura will stay in Jamaica with Ellen and James until they return and all head to Texas together.

Chapter 32
AS the holidays pass quickly.  Tina and Cole made final plans to move to Jamaica.  It made Christmas bitter-sweet.  Everyone was happy to spend the first Christmas with Isaac and Laura.  They all had so much fun.  They then spent New Year’s together until it was finally time to say goodbye.
The family in Texas promised to come to Jamaica in the summer and Cole and Tina planned to come back in November for the holidays.  That would be their routine for as long as possible.
The car was quiet on the ride to the airport.  Tina finally laid her head on Cole’s shoulder and began to softly cry.  He just held her tight and said nothing.
On the plane, Isaac stared excitedly out the window the entire flight.  Laura mostly slept in Cole’s arms as he too just relaxed.  Tina did some work on her computer, preparing for meetings about the medical facility.  The construction was on schedule and Tina hoped to open by March 1st.  Her plan was to have most of the staff in place by then.  Her first course of action was to find a part time nanny.  She had hoped Elaine would come with them but she had decided to go back to school.  Tina hated to lose her but supported her decision.
They arrived in Jamaica and Ellen drove them to their new house where James already had lunch waiting.  “Charlie from the car lot sent over a car for you guys to use until you get one,” James told them.  “It’s in the garage.  He said stop by when you can and he’ll help you pick out a new one for each of you.  Cole I asked him about modifying one for you to drive and he said it should be no problem but it would take them a couple of weeks.”
“Great, thanks,” Cole said.  “I owe him big time.  How’s the bus?”
Ellen smiled.  “Beautiful and getting lots of use.”
“Good, that’s what it’s for,” Cole replied.
After lunch Cole and Tina just relax from the trip as Ellen and James plays with Isaac and Laura.  Tina is just about asleep when her cell rings.  “Dr. Carpenter,” she answers in a sleepy voice.
“Tina, its Elaine.   Listen I’ve been thinking, if the offer still stands, I’d love to come to Jamaica and work for you.  I can work for you and still go to school there.  I was accepted to a university there and I believe God is just leading me to Jamaica.”
“Of course,” Tina says excitedly.  “The apartment over the garage has your name on it.  It’s furnished and ready to go.”
“Great,” Elaine answers.  “I’ll ship some stuff over and plan on being there next week.”
“I can’t wait.  Listen call Beth as the travel agency and she will take care of things for you.”
“Will do Mrs. Tina.  See you next week.”
Tina hangs up.  “Well it looks like Elaine will come after all.  She’ll be here next week.”
“Great,” Cole answers.  “One less thing to worry about.  I think I am gonna go lay down.  Wake me up in an hour,” he says as he kisses Tina and makes his way to the master bedroom.
“He still gets tired,” Tina says to Ellen as he leaves.
“It takes time to get that endurance back,” Ellen tells her.  “Give him time.”
Tina and Cole settle into life in Jamaica and the family life.  Before long, it’s time for the ribbon cutting for the medical facility.  There is a grand ceremony and everyone it excited.  The next day it opens to its first patient.
Everything is going well.  Cole has made several trips to bring back children in need.  He loves seeing their smiling faces.  Tina is also enjoying the medical clinic.  She still gets to see, interact and treat patients while also overseeing the operations.  Treating the small children is her favorite part of the day.
The summer quickly comes and the entire Carpenter and Connor families come to Jamaica for their summer visit.
On the final day of their visit, they are all sitting down for dinner when Cole gets everyone’s attention.
“Hey everyone, T and I have an announcement to make.”  Cole smiles and takes Tina’s hand.  “There’s going to be a new addition to our family!”
Everyone is ecstatic.  Soon the conversation turns to names.  Everyone spits out ideas before Cole finally stops them.  “Well, we already thought about this.”  He takes his mom’s hand as she sits on the other side of him from Tina.  “Mom, if it’s a boy, we’d like to name him Caleb.  Would you be ok with that?”
Hazel begins to cry.  “Oh Cole!  What a joy!”  She hugs him and sobs on his shoulder.  Everyone else sits in silence.  Finally Hazel composes herself.  She then looks at Tina and says, “Thank you dear.  So sweet.”  Tina smiles.
“It was Cole’s idea and I loved it,” Tina says as she gets up and goes to hug Hazel.
Finally Pam asks, “Any girl names?”
Tina laughs.  “No we haven’t gotten that far.  We have a couple of ideas but nothing for sure.”
“What do Isaac and Laura think of this?” Tina’s mom asks.
Luckily Elaine has Isaac and Laura in the other room.  “We haven’t talked to them yet,” Tina says.  “We plan on doing that tomorrow.”
“Yeah,” Cole jokes, “We didn’t want them spilling the beans to you guys.”
They all continue to talk well into the evening.  They finally decide to call it a night, so those traveling can get some rest.
The next morning after the family leaves for Texas, Cole and Tina sit down for lunch with Isaac, who just turned 5 and Laura who is almost 2.  After they have all finished eating, Cole takes Isaac in his lap and Tina takes Laura.
Cole begins to speak, “Hey guys, we have something to tell you.  Mommy is gonna have a baby.  So you guys will have a new brother or sister.”
Laura just looks as him and seems to not really understand.  Isaac is really excited.  “Wow!  When will we get it?  Did you save them just like us?
Cole chuckles, “No buddy.  This is a bit different.  The baby is in mommy’s tummy.  It will get bigger in there until its ready to come out.”
Laura pats Tina’s stomach.  “Baby, tummy,” she says.
Tina hugs her.  “That’s right princess.”
Isaac questions again.  “How does it live in mommy’s tummy?”
Tina laughs, “Do you remember how we’ve talked about God and how He does all these wonderful things?  Well, God put the baby in my tummy and He will help it grow until He’s ready for us to have it.”
Isaac smiles.  “Oh, ok.  Well, can I have a brother?”
Cole and Tina laugh.  “God gets to decide that buddy,” Cole tells him.
After talking about it a bit longer, Isaac and Laura run off to play.

Chapter 27, 28, 29

Chapter 27
Early the next morning, Tina, Ellen and James are at the hospital waiting on Dr. Armstrong.  Just as he arrives, Michael also comes in.   “Well, looks like the gang’s all here,” Dr. Armstrong says.  “I just got his latest blood work and everything looks good.  We are going to remove the renal and heart machines.  We will recheck about 1PM and if all goes is good, we will start the process of waking him.  We also did a brain scan this morning and everything looks normal so I don’t foresee any issues.”
Just as he finishes, a couple of nurses come in to remove the machines.  “I will ask you folks to please wait outside while we remove these.  It is a bit more in-depth than the vent so don’t want to scare anyone,” Dr. Armstrong says.
Tina kisses Cole and they all move to the hallway, silently.  Finally, Tina asks Pastor James to pray.
“Our loving Heavenly Father,” James begins as they all hold hands.  “We come before you on behalf of our brother Cole.  Father, we ask that you have mercy on him at this time.  We ask that you work in his life even in this difficult time.  Please Father, we ask that your will be done.  We ask that you would heal his body and return him safely to his family.  We ask that you give him a long happy life with Tina, Isaac and Laura.  But not our will Father, only yours be done.  Give us all the strength to endure, especially Tina.  Help us do your work and abide in your will, Amen.”
They all hug as Dr. Armstrong comes out.  “A hug fest going on here.  Well, everything looks good.  The nurses are finishing up.  His body seemed to react well.  I will check on him in an hour or two after I finish rounds.  If all is good, we will do a few tests and go from there.”
“Thanks Doctor,” Tina says as the nurses come out and he follows them down the hall.  Tina leads Ellen, James, and Michael into Cole’s room.
“He looks so much better than the last time I saw him,” Ellen says.
“He really does,” Tina says as she kisses his hands.  “It’s amazing what happens when they take the machines off.”
“He really looks good,” Michael agrees.  “Tina, I hate to leave but duty calls.  Please call me if there is any change.  Here is my number.”
“You got it Michael, and thank you,” Tina says as he walks out the door.
After a few minutes Pastor James speaks, “Ladies, I need to do somethings at the orphanage.  Will you be ok by yourselves for a few hours?”
Ellen puts her arm around Tina.  “We’ll be just fine.  Join us for lunch?”
“That I will do,” he replies as he kisses Ellen and leaves.
“Well sweetie,” Ellen says.  “Looks like it’s just us.  What you want to do?”
Tina laughs, “I was actually thinking of going to the lobby to make some phones calls.  You know, updating everyone, checking on the kids, and checking in with my office.  Want to join me?”
Ellen agrees and they walk down the hall after Tina makes the nurse swear to call if anything changes.
Tina finishes all her calls just as James returns to go to lunch.  “Well the kids are good,” Tina says.  “I still didn’t tell them where I am or why, even though Isaac tried to get it out.  His family is glad to hear he is recovering and they are still praying.  Hospital is charging on without me.  So, let me check with Dr. Armstrong and then we can head to lunch.  Be right back,” Tina says as she heads down the hall.
James kisses Ellen, “That girl is something else,” he says as they sit down to wait.
Ellen laughs, “Yes she is.  I can’t wait until the Lord blesses her as I know He will.” James smiles in agreement.
Tina returns and they all head to lunch.  They eat quickly so they can return to the hospital for Cole’s next round of tests.  Dr. Armstrong promised to call Tina when the tests were complete.  They sat in the café and visited as they waited for his call.
“Ellen, I’ve been thinking about something.  I love it down here and know we will return often with the kids to visit so I think I want to buy a house down here.  Do you know a good realtor?”
Ellen looks at James with a big smile on her face, then back at Tina.  “Yes I do.  There is a wonderful young lady in our church.  She is very good and is a strong Christian.  She has 2 kids about Isaac and Laura’s ages.  I’ll give her a call and see if maybe she can have lunch or dinner soon.”
“Great,” Tina replies.  “I’ll put a list together of what I am looking for.  I just think it will be nice to have.”  Tina smiles at Ellen as her phone rings.  Tina answers.
“Thank you Dr. Armstrong.  We will be right there.”  She hangs up and they all walk around the corner to the hospital.

 Chapter 28
“Everything is looking great,” Dr. Armstrong announces.  “Actually better than I expected.  So, I am going to start the process of bringing him out of the coma.  However, it may be some time still before he wakes up.  We just never know how his body will react.  Sometimes it’s just a few minutes or could be hours or days.  We just don’t know.  Any Questions?”
Tina smiles, “I think we are good.  I will be here when he wakes up so if need be can I stay the night?”
“Of course,” Dr. Armstrong replies.  “I’ll let the nurse know and we can get it set up.  A nurse will be right in to put the shot in his IV to start the process.  I’ll be around on the floor and check in later.  Call if you need me.”
A few minutes later the nurse comes in.  “Ok, here we go.  Call us if you need us.  Also when he starts to wake up, please let us know.  I’ll be back in about an hour to change the IV.”
Tina sits and gets comfortable.  “Well, you two, I am here for the long haul.  If you need to go do anything, please feel free.  I’ve got a book, my computer, and my phone so I am good.”
Ellen hugs her, “We do have a few things to do.  Call us if you need anything.  We will bring dinner up later.  Let us know when he wakes up.” They hug again and James and Ellen leave.
Tina pulls out her computer to get some much needed work done.  Before long she finds herself side track looking at houses in the area.  She realizes how much time she has wasted when the nurse come in to change Cole’s IV.
The nurse asks her, “Do you need anything?”
“A more comfortable chair would be nice,” Tina jokingly says.
“I’ll see what I can do,” the nurse replies.  “We also just brewed a fresh pot of coffee if you’d like some.  Help yourself.”
“Thanks,” Tina replies.  “I just might a bit later.  I was kidding about the chair.”
The nurse smiles.  “By the way my name is Devin.  I’ll be his day nurse while he’s here.  I’ll introduce you to the night nurse when she comes in.  Let me know if you need or want anything,” she says.
“Nice to meet you Devin.  I am Tina.  Thank you for taking such good care of my Cole.” Tina replies.
Devin smiles and nods as she leaves.  A few minutes later she returns with a huge smile.  “Brought you a present Miss Tina.”  As she opens the door all the way and orderly rolls in a big comfy recliner.
“Wow,” Tina says.  “Thank you so much.  I was kidding but since it’s here, I’ll take it,” she laughs.
“We aim to please Miss Tina.  Besides, we want you to be comfortable.  I also have a roll away bed on its way.  If you decide to stay the night, it will be in the hallway by the door.  You can leave it there when you aren’t using it so it doesn’t take up all the space in here.”
Tina smiles, “You deserve a hug.  Thank you so much.”  She hugs Devin.
“You are most welcome,” Devin says.  “Again let me know if you need anything.”  She closes the door as she leaves.
Tina settles into the recliner, turns on the radio and tries to ear herself away from house hunting to get some work done.  She calls Trudy to get an update and to have her send some files.  Tina hates being away during the research but knows it’s in good hands.  She hangs up with just as another call comes in.  “Dr. Carpenter,” she answers.
“Hey Carp, it’s Larry.  Listen I know you got a lot going on but thought you might have dinner with Bess and I tomorrow.”
“I’d love to Larry but that might be a bit hard,” Tina laughs.  “I’m in Jamaica.”
“Jamaica!  You just got back from vacation.”
“It’s not a vacation,” she says with a sigh.  Tina proceeds to tell him the story about Cole.  He is delighted to hear and prays everything works out.  They talk for a few and Tina promises to have dinner with them when she returns.  She hangs up just as Dr. Armstrong comes in.
“Just doing a quick check, Tina.  Don’t let me interrupt,” he says as he checks on Cole.
“Oh it’s ok.  I am not really getting anything done anyway.  Just can’t stay on track,” she says standing to stretch.
“Well, everything looks and sounds good.  Just going to take him time.  I’ll be back in later,” he says.
“Thanks,” Tina replies as he leaves.
Tina decides to pray since she can’t concentrate. She puts the small chair by Cole’s bed, takes his hand and begins to pray aloud.
“Gracious Father, thank you for sparing Cole so far.  Thank you for allowing me to be here now.  Thank you for family and friends who care so much.  Lord, please continue to heal Cole until he is fully recovered.  Please somehow find a way for him to get out of the agency.  Lord, just somehow let him be the husband and father he longs to be.  Keep him in your will and in your hands, Amen.”
Just as she finishes, she feels her hand being squeezed and faintly hears, “Amen.”
Tina’s head shoots up.  She stands up and sees Cole’s eyes slowly starting to open.  She calls his name.  “Cole?  Cole?  Can you hear me?”
He looks up at her and smiles as he squeezes her hand again, “My Sweet T.”
Tina leans in a kisses his lips.  “Cole, I knew you’d make it.”  She reaches over and pushes the nurse call button.  In less than 30 seconds Devin rushes in.
“What’s wrong Miss Tina?”
“Devin he’s wake.  He’s awake!”
Devin sees Cole’s eyes, “Let me get the Doctor.”  She rushes out to page Dr. Armstrong and comes back in.  She checks Cole’s vitals as Tina talks to him.
“How do you feel Cole?”
“Little sore but over all pretty good.  How are you?”  He smiles.
“Much better now,” she smiles and kisses him again, just as Dr. Armstrong comes in.
“That ought to perk him up,” He says with a laugh.  “Cole, I am Dr. Armstrong.  Tell me how and what you are feeling.”
“Pretty good here Doc.  My left arm and abdomen is pretty sore.  Can’t really feel much else, especially my left foot. “
Tina looks as Cole then Dr. Armstrong.  She knows what’s next as Dr. Armstrong speaks.
“Glad you feel your left arm,” he says.  “Can you wiggle your fingers?”
Cole barely moves his fingers.  “Not much.”
“Any movement is good,” Dr. Armstrong says.  “Now, let’s talk about ‘that left foot.  Cole, your left leg was badly damaged.  We tried to repair it but unfortunately were unable to do so.  We had to amputate below the knee.  The good news is, you still have the knee at full function which will really help for walking.”
Cole lifts up the covers to see his missing leg, then lays back in bed holding back tears and sighs,  “What else Doc?”
Dr. Armstrong proceeds to tell Cole about all his other injuries but that he should make a full recovery.  Cole thanks him and Dr. Armstrong leaves.
Tina is so excited, “Let me call Ellen and James.  Then we can call your family.”  Tina steps into the doorway and calls Ellen and James.  Cole lays in his bed coming to terms with his injuries.  As she hangs up with Ellen she walks back to Cole.  “You ready to call your mom?”
Cole smiles as Tina dials the number and hands Cole the phone.
“Connor residence,” Hazel answers.
“Hey mom, how are you?”  Cole has a huge smile on his face.
“Oh my baby!  I am great.  It is so good to hear your voice.  How are you feeling?”
“I am ok Mom,” Cole replies.  “Tired and sore.  Just glad to still be here.  Listen, I’m really tired so gonna give you to T.  Love you, Mom.”
“Love you too, baby,” Hazel replies.
Tina takes the phone from Cole.  “Hey Hazel.  He’s still pretty weak.  So how’s Matt?
“He’s doing well,” Hazel tells her.  “He’s napping right now.  He went for a walk and got pretty tired.  I will tell him the good news when he wakes up.  He’s slowly getting back to normal.  We’ve been praying for you.”
“Thank you, Hazel,” Tina replies.  “I better call my family now.  I’ll call you guys later when we know more.”
“Thank you Tina.  Love you. Take Care,” Hazel tells her then hangs up.
Tina calls her parents and then Pam who are all thrilled.  They all agree not to tell Isaac until they know more.  She finishes talking as Ellen and James arrive.
Cole greets them and they just talk.  It isn’t long before Michael arrives with Dr. Armstrong.
Michael greets everyone.  “Ok guys.  I am sorry to have to tell you this, but Tina, I told you it would happen.  Day after tomorrow, he belongs to the agency again.  So enjoy this next day and a half because after that, you will have no more contact with him until the agency makes a decision.”
Cole and Tina protest the short notice but Michael tells them it is no use.  Cole finally realizes he’s stuck and agrees.  Tina still protest.  “Cole, I can’t believe you are gonna do this.  If you go back, you may never get out,” she screams at him.
“T,” he says softly and takes her hand.  “I have no choice.  Look, just pray and trust God will find a way.  I know He will and w will be together soon.  I promise.”
Tina lays over Cole, buried her face in his chest and starts to sob.  Cole put his good arm around her and kisses the top of her head.  “T, listen.  Tomorrow let’s call and talk to the family and Isaac.  I need to talk to them about this.  We will spend the rest of the day talking about the wedding.  We will get it all planned.  Set the date and everything.  That way, you know I’ll be back before then.  It’s gonna happen.  Just believe!”
Tina raises her head and wipes her tears.  “I am not sure that makes it all better but I will take it.”  She leans in and they kiss.
They all spend the rest of the evening chatting.  Ellen talks about what the realtor says.  Tina explains to Cole about buying a vacation house.  Cole smiles and agrees but then brings up another topic.
“James, do you remember what we talked about that first day we met, the orphanage and all?”
“Yes, I do,” James replies with a smile.  “I have been praying about that.  Why do you ask?”
“Well,” Cole answers.  “When I was out there, I had a lot of time talking to God and listening to Him.  Now maybe I should discuss this with my soon to be wife but…. God has called me to be that person for you and I have accepted his called,” Cole says with a smile.
James and Ellen are ecstatic but Tina is a bit confused about what he is saying.  James and Ellen finally explain to her the situation.  Tina just smiles a big smile as they tell her.  By the time they finish, Tina is almost laughing.  Ellen notices and says, “Tina, you seem very excited about this and not at all surprised.  What’s up?”
Tina sits on the side of Cole’s bed, takes his hand and speaks.  “I had some time alone with God as well.  He also has new plans for me.  He showed me a need here that I can fill as well.  Ellen, I believe you hinted at this during one of our long talks, about the orphanage needing a medical clinic and the church offering medical services to those that can’t afford it.  God has called me to do just that.”  Cole squeezes her hand and they have a mice long kiss.  Ellen and James hug them both.  James leads a prayer thanking God for His guidance.
After the prayer Cole speaks, “So, I guess that vacation home just turned into a permanent family home!”
Tina laughs, “I guess so.”
They spend the rest of the evening talking about houses and how to make the transition.  Cole finally leaves the house search up to Tina.  “As long as you and those 2 precious kids are there, that’s all I need.”  Tina kisses him as he dozes off to sleep.
Tina, Ellen and James talk quietly as they eat dinner.  They nurse comes in and wakes Cole up to eat.  “Ok Cole, you have been on fluids for several days.  We are going to work your way up,” Devin tells him.  “This is your night nurse Coral.  She will be taking care of you until I come back in the morning.”  She then turns towards Tina.  “Coral, this is Miss Tina, I was telling you about.”  They all greet and chat for a bit. The nurses leave.
Tina decides to spend the night at Ellen and James’ house to get a good night sleep.  She talks to Coral before she leaves to make sure she will call with changes.  Tina promises Cole to be back first thing in the morning to start planning.

Chapter 29
The Next morning, Tina is at the hospital bright and early to spend as much time with Cole as possible.  They start making wedding plans by deciding on the date of November 16th.  They also decide that since Jamaica is so special to them, they want to have it on the rock outside James’ church and have him perform the ceremony.  They will fly everyone down for the wedding, just close friends and family.  It is no mid-May so that give Tina about 6 months to get everything ready.
They work on a few details and get most everything decided by lunch.  They decide that Tina will work out the rest as needed.
After they eat lunch, they use Tina’s computer to search houses on the island.  As they begin, Ellen and James arrive.  Tina shares the wedding plans and James and Ellen are excited.  “That will be great, dear.  Also if you want the realtor is free tomorrow, if you want to meet in the morning after Cole leaves.  Maybe do some looking,” Ellen says.
“That would be great,” Tina replies.  “I’d like to get something done before I head home, or at least have an idea.”
Cole speaks up, “Just make sure I get my man cave!”
Tina laughs, “I will baby don’t worry.  I’ve got to have some place to send you when I get mad at you!”
Cole smiles and pokes her in the side.  They all chat and visit the rest of the day.

They continue the next morning after breakfast.   It isn’t until Michael comes in that they are reminded what’s coming.  “Well folks, I hate to break this up but it’s almost time.  Just letting you know they will be here at 10AM to start his debriefing.  So you need to be out of here by 9:45.  That gives you almost an hour.  Again, I am really sorry.”
“It’s ok Michael,” Cole says as he sticks his hand out to shake.  “You’ve been great.  I know you didn’t have to let them be here at all.  You’ve always been there for me, thanks.”
Tina hugs Michael as he leaves.
They all enjoy their last moments together.  About 930, James offers up and elegant prayer for Cole.  When he finishes, he and Ellen say their goodbyes and leave to let Tina and Cole have few minutes alone.  They wait in the hallway.
Promptly at 9:45, Michael comes up the hall, knocks on the door, and tells Tina its time.  He then waits in the hall with James and Ellen.
In a few minutes, Tina comes out crying and Ellen puts her arms around her.  They stand there for a moment until Tina can compose herself enough to walk down the hall.
They drive to Ellen and James’ house in silence.  When they finally get to the church, Tina slowly gets out of the car.  “I am gonna go for a walk.  I’ll be back soon.”  She starts down toward the beach.  James and Ellen go inside and pray for Cole and Tina.
It’s almost dark and Ellen is getting worried since Tina has not returned.  She finally walks out on the front steps and sees Tina sitting on the big rock down by the beach.  She slowly walks out to check on her.
Ellen silently sits beside Tina and puts her arm around her.  Ellen says a silent prayer and Tina finally speaks.  “I will be standing right her with him in 6 months and become his wife.  Tell me it’s gonna happen, Ellen.  Tell me I am not crazy to think this.”
“You are not crazy, child,” Ellen softly says.  “You and he will stand right here.  Trust the Lord to do that.  It WILL happen.”
There is more silence then Ellen asks, “Do you want me to call the realtor and cancel tomorrow?  It’s ok if you aren’t up to it.”
“No,” Tina says.  “I want to do it.  I am going home in 3 days and would like to have it at least narrowed down if not decided.  Will you go with me and help?”
Ellen smiles, “Of course I will.  Now let’s go get some dinner.”  They hug and head back to the church.

The next morning, they meet Shannon the realtor for breakfast.  Tina and Shannon hit if off instantly and form a quick friendship bond.  Ellen knew they’d get along and be instant friends.  Tina tells Shannon what she is looking for and shows her a couple she found online.  Shannon shows Tina some she found from the list Ellen gave her.  They make a list of one’s to look at.
“You ladies give me about an hour,” Shannon says.  “Let me set up some showings and I’ll give you a call.”
Tina and Ellen go shopping while they wait.  About an hour later Shannon calls and says she has 5 showings set up after lunch.  She tells Tina and Ellen when and where to meet.  They decide to shop a bit more, grab a bite for lunch and then meet up.
As they pull up to the first house, Tina is awe struck at how beautiful it is on the outside.  “If the inside even comes close, this one will be hard to beat,” she thinks out loud.  Ellen and Shannon laugh.
As Tina walks in, she is not impressed with what she see.  She hopes the rest of the house makes up for it but soon realizes that is not the case.  They quickly move on to the next house.
The second house really impresses Tina and has everything they are looking for.  It quickly becomes the one to beat.  The third and fourth house don’t meet the standard.  They pull up to the final house and Tina smiles.  “This is a good one,” she says to Ellen.
“I agree,” Ellen says.  “This looks like you and Cole.”
As they walk in Tina loves the inside just as much.  “This is perfect,” She says.  “Everything we want and then some.  Cole has his room, we each have office space and plenty of room for the family to grow.  Shannon, please tell me this is not out of our budget.”
Shannon hesitates before finally answering.  “Well, it is a bit above but the owner is really motivated to sale as they are leaving the country.  I think I can get it down to the top end you gave me if not a bit less.  Just say the word and I’ll go in a bit low so we have room to negotiate.  Remember it’s a buyers’ market. I could also go in with a best offer and hope they take it.”
“Let’s negotiate!  Go in as low as you think you can without insulting them and go from there.”
Shannon and Tina discuss what that price would be and Shannon calls the sellers agent.  After she hangs up, she tells Tina, “Ok, she is going to call the seller and get back to me.  Want to grab some coffee or tea while we wait?”
They find a seat at a nearby café.  Tina decided to call Pam and check in with the kids.  She updates Pam on Cole’s situation and Pam agrees to call the rest of the family.  And let them know.  “The kids are napping as this is a great time to do it,” she tells Tina.
Pam wishes her luck on the house.  “Thanks, sis,” Tina says.  “I should be back day after tomorrow.  I’ll call you when I know for sure.”
AS she hangs up, Shannon’s phone rings.  “Yes, ok.  Thank you.  Yes, I’ll present that to my client and get back to you.”  Shannon hangs up.  “Ok so they did not accept your offer but they did come back with their absolute bottom offer.  It’s several thousand more than your offer but still well within your budget,” Shannon says as she shows Tina the number she wrote down.  “I think it’s a great price.  The house is worth a bit more but like I said they want out.”
Tina smiles, “Great!  Let’s do it”
Shannon calls the seller agent back and accepts.  “Ok I can have the papers to you tomorrow.  Thank you.”  She hangs up and says to Tina, “Can you come by my office this evening to sign the papers?”
“Here’s my number, call when you are ready and we will be there.”  Tina thanks her and they leave excited to share the news with James.
